You should bring sweater and rain ponchos if you want to hike in the highlands near San José, where it can be chilly . Light cotton clothes, sun protection and insect repellent is good for the tropical hot rest of the country. To Costa Rica a passport valid for at least three months or more and a round-trip ticket are necessary. To rent a car (only with credit card) your driver?s licence is accepted for a period of three months. The currency unit is the Colon but the US Dollar is accepted and preferred countrywide, As are travellerīs checks and all major creditcards. It is nearly impossible to change European currency except in banks. To change money or travellerīs checks at banks the passport (original) is obligatory.
